MedLab Middle East highlights the future of Health

Dubai welcomes visitors, traders, and organizations from different healthcare solutions on this year’s edition of Medlab Middle East. Happening alongside Arab Health, Medlab convenes the healthcare and medical laboratory specialists to discuss, educate, and introduce different solutions that will improve the delivery of healthcare services.

Medlab Middle East 2021 opens at the Dubai World Trade Center, with the theme ”United by business, driving the industry forward” and will run from June 21-24. However, a virtual or online version has been running since May 23 to accommodate the delegates who want to participate in the said event while staying in their offices or homes. This strategy has been introduced as an alternative format to control the number of people during the live exhibition amid the pandemic.

Mr. Mohamed Dekkak, Chairman of Adgeco Group, attended the Medlab Exhibition. He is impressed by the event organizer’s effort to promote and prioritize the health and safety of the people. According to Mr. Dekkak, the event is very timely as we are currently experiencing a challenging time dealing with COVID-19. He believes that Medlab can successfully make people aware of delivering more medical insights and solutions on different health issues.

Medlab Middle East has been at the forefront of medical laboratory exhibitions for 20 years. This year’s edition will prove that education and everyone’s participation will eventually help get through this challenging time. Medlab Middle East welcomes more than 20,000 medical laboratories, healthcare, and trade experts from over 100 countries to provide a business platform for thousands of trade exhibitors from more than 60 countries to showcase their advanced laboratory tools and solutions. Like Arab Health, the event also offers numerous multi-disciplinary sessions where medical experts can earn CME credits.

Medlab Middle East Conferences begins with the forum on Laboratory Management and Haematology. MedLab and Arab Health showcase numerous major dialogues and scientific talks, industry interviews, product presentations, and will provide the participants to introduce their services. I also provide a series of personal assemblies highlighting the importance of building business networks .

MedLab is the most conspicuous medical laboratory show and congress in the MENA region. Medlab Middle East plays an essential part in developing the significance of laboratory medicine in restructuring the future of diagnosing health conditions by providing a platform for laboratory industry frontrunners, including manufacturers, suppliers, and traders, to impart best application and procedures, showcase innovations, and collaborate and meet with people who are interested in healthcare investments.

One of the highlights in Medlab is the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding [MoU] between UAEs G42 Healthcare and global biotechnology company Seegene Inc to open mobile or portable testing laboratories all over the Middle East and North African region which are fully equipped to carry out healthcare check-ups and COVID testing in the communities. The World Health Organization (WHO) has authorized Seegene Mobile Station to implement automated examination with minimum supervision. Graded with BioSafety Level-2 by WHO, Seegene testing stations can do their procedures through its state–of–the–art equipment, RT-PCR chemicals, consumables, IT solutions, and technical support for diagnostic testing. It is said that Seegene’s mobile laboratory can accomplish 2,000 tests daily for 225 disease-causing organisms in 10 different benchmarks, with a computerized workflow from pre-extraction to result evaluation. The testing laboratory is transportable by ship or land and can be made operational within few days.

The said testing services would be on offer in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain,  Qatar, Oman, Jordan,  Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Egypt, Syria,  Lebanon,  Sudan, Iraq, Iran Palestine, and Yemen.

Another hot topic that the experts discussed is how the integration of advanced technology and medicine improved the delivery of healthcare solutions and how the increasing levels of artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to a more independent outlook for healthcare providers.

According to Dr. Junaid Bajwa, Microsoft Research’s Chief Medical Scientist, there is a significant increase in free and improved accessibility for information from portable devices related to medical care, such as genetics, ecology, public health constraints, and living conditions of the society. He stressed that AI had become one of the essential requirements to provide seamless and efficient healthcare services.

He further explained that even though it is challenging to combine medical data and AI, it is undeniably the future of healthcare. According to WHO, it is expecting a substantial decrease in the number of healthcare workers by the year 2030, and they encourage people to start familiarizing themselves with medical technology.

There are many fields of innovation by way of automation improvements in services such as home collection, home testing, Point of Care testing that is finally delivering efficient and enhanced patient experiences. There are also enormous technology transformations in the field of digital pathology, genome sequencing, and automated testing machines.
