Recognizing the contribution of arts in peace building is something the Moroccan Association of Ibn Battuta hopes to promote. Thus, the organization has decided to incorporate arts into its annual travel and culture event that seeks to foster international peace.
As part of the 4-day event of second edition of the International Festival of Ibn Battuta held on November 9-11, 2017, an Art Exhibition was prepared to showcase Morocco’s rich cultural arts.
The art exhibition which was housed inside Tangier’s Cultural Center of Ahmed Boukmakh displayed various historical artifacts and contemporary artworks. It was a great venue to appreciate the blend of Morocco’s past heritage and modern art presented by the new generation of local artists. The main hall was filled with paintings, literary works, sculptures, etc., it was a great day to celebrate art and history.
Mohamed Dekkak, Honorary President of the Moroccan Association of Ibn Battuta and Mustapha Oudadess, Secretary General of Tangier – Tetouan – El Hociema region graced the ribbon cutting of the said exhibition. An eye catching live painting performance by Benjamin Carbonne and Antonio Rodriguez Yuste stirred the crowd in amazement as cocktails and drinks were served after.
Some of the painters/associations who participated in the art exhibition includes: artist-calligrapher Mohamed Qarmad, Afif Bennani, Amina Badraoui Idrissi, Nadia El Mouaque, Afafe Slaoui, Sophia Abi, Hicham Zouine, Hassan Mrani, Chaimae Aboudi, Aicha Arji Lebbar, Mhamdi Alaoui, Nadia Skali, Jacques Samir Stenka, Houdamouaddah, Noufissa Benjelloun, Aouatef Khelloqi, Association Forsaty Assadaka, Association Marocaine Pour La Solidarité Musulmane, Younes Cheikh Ali, Abdelwahab Sibaouaih and Fondation Abdelhadi Tazi.
Creating art is a great way to envision the future, to build bridges that connects the world, develop empathy and nurture intercultural respect and understanding. The Moroccan Association of Ibn Battuta sees the young generation to be the future leaders, thinkers and doers. Helping them hone their creative minds into understanding world cultures will help them deal better with differences and in resolving conflicts peacefully.
